From my research I sketched out new ideas drawing inspiration from the different aspects I had admired in there designs. I really thought that using the landscape photography for the skincare range would work really well. I feel it'll be dramatic and different giving it shelf appeal and presence but also work well with the brand image and message.
Initially I chose these two images from my research as it was mountains I had in mind when sketching my ideas. I just put the logo over the images and incorporated the colour in which led me to make a decision in the direction I wanted to go design wise in my sketches.
I felt this image worked a lot more due to it's dramatic colour and layers. Therefore I added the copy information for the packaging front.
I then played with the composition and colour.
To expand upon my sketches I tried the photography on the side of the packaging as a decoration rather than the core design front.
The logo didn't work on white as well as it did on the mint colour.
I tried incorporating different design sketches together to see which worked best.
I also considered how this design could spread to the label on the actual container. I did consider doing a die cut logo showing through to the product however it doesn't really work with this logo I don't think as its such a light weight.
After discussing with peers and getting feedback it was agreed this was the strongest design layout. Therefore I then wanted to see if it would have such a strong shelf present. I used an image I had taken as primary research as a basis to mock up a shelf.
I decided to experiment further and overlay the turquoise with different opacities.
I quite liked the overlay as I felt the colours were more fitting with the brand. Also the contrast between the two tones next to each other separated products.
Because of this I tried alternative photography to help separate the products and also tried different tones to see which worked best for the particular image.
From this I then tried using more of my visual research, attaching a different image to a every separate product. I purposely selected the photo to connect with the use or type of product eg. a wave for facial wash. I asked for feedback from peers and they said although the first set were more consistent they preferred the use of the different photography as it broke up the products. To keep it looking more structured I think it would be better if it was displayed by twos so the designs are separated more and have more presence by themselves.
Due to using different items this led me to add in a white line defining between the top stripe which unites them all as with certain images the top line got lost.
I also tried the images in black and white to see if it would work better with the strip on top standing out as the key colour.
