Self: Photoshoot

I collaborated with Karla on a fashion photoshoot so I could get some headshots of the models for the campaign side to this brief. I wanted natural shots of the face to express the youthful and fresh faced personality of the brand.

We made a studio up in one of the fashion rooms.

We both brought a mood board to help direct the model into different poses and positions.

Karla brought her fmp pieces and accessories as it was a test shoot for her shoot on location.

We took polaroids as well as shots on the digital slr.

I asked the model do a few different poses including playing with hair, looking to the side, smiling and straight ahead at the camera. Initially it was a bit strange directing someone but they were happy to take instruction from us and I started to feel better and more comfortable. As the shoot went on we experimented with different lighting to try and get natural light and a fresh faced look. These are some of the shots I selected for editing for one of the models:

I tried to get a wide range of poses but with the natural beauty aspect key in my choices.

I look online at tips for editing portraits as i'm quite new to photoshop editing. I found some useful tutorials on youtube as well advice websites.

Initially they came out very garish and unnatural (especially the teeth!)

I had imagined the photos being in black and white in the campaign but I was starting to prefer the image in the natural colour.

Now I had played around with different settings I started softening the techniques I was using to make only slight changes to the original image as to not distort the natural tones of her skin and features. This came out a lot better and more natural.

I then applied similar techniques to the other images I had selected from the collection of shots.

I'm really happy with the result of the final edited pics and now am going to select a few from the other models pictures and edit them similarly to then create the campaign.
