To help establish the brand identity I did several bits of visual research exploring with different elements and aspects of the idea of a nest.
I looked at the physical structure of a nest and the texture and tones of it's materials.I looked at how its been inturputated in design. I really liked the simplified, stripped back version in the bottom left and the flow of the text that look a bit like wings. The packaging of eggs also shows how the idea of a nest can be applied to formats as well as be represented in a logo.
These are sketched inturputations, I really like the texture created by the other lapping lines.
I went beyond the visual of a nest and looked how birds have been inturputated illustratively.
I also then looked at feathers, I really like the close up of a feather and the texture and tones.
I went and researched other homeware companies looking at how they've applied there style to there brand identity. I feel that you can evidently see the difference between the cost and personality of these brands. Ikea comes across a lot cheaper then say the white company and Loaf is a lot friendly and soft than Toast.
Design wise I wanted it to stay stripped and minimal. I found this project where I really like the thin lined illustrations. The brand identity is neutral tones which works well as it's for wood material. This kind of pallet I feel will be appropriate for my brand as the tones and textures of a nest are similar.
At the point I could see the name working as the logo instead of having an icon/symbol. I quite like the idea of having a scriptive typeface as it would show the honest, organic nature of the brand as a nest is something very homey and represents warmth. However I did also look through my font library and found some sans serif typefaces which I felt would work well.
As i'd really liked the texture of the feathers I attempted to try and use the texture from the photograph in the letterforms. I would quite like to try and print a real feather to get a print of the texture and see if that works well for the brand identity.
During my research I noted down key words and visuals that came to mind.
